Two checks before you pay us anything

Roughly one call in six is something the householder could have fixed in two minutes, and Vaillants are no exception. If the display shows F.22, the system water pressure is too low — repressurising via the filling loop usually brings the boiler straight back. In a cold snap, a frozen external condensate pipe will also shut it down: a jug of warm — not boiling — water poured along the pipe often clears it. If neither works, press reset once only, then stop and call us. Repeated resetting can mask the fault pattern that helps us find the real problem.

Vaillant models we work on

Most of the Vaillants we see across Birmingham come from three families: the ecoTEC plus, the ecoTEC pro and the ecoFIT range. We repair all of them at the same rate — £99 covers the callout, a full fault diagnosis and the first hour of labour, Mon–Fri 8am–5.30pm. Once we know what has failed you get the total repair price before we carry on, so there is no open-ended hourly billing. We hold same-day slots for no-heat and no-hot-water calls; ring early in the day for the best chance of one. Out of hours, we quote the callout on the phone before anyone sets off.

The Vaillant faults we see most

• F.22 — system water pressure too low. The one code you can usually clear yourself via the filling loop. If it keeps returning, water is leaving the system somewhere — a leak, a failed expansion vessel or a weeping pressure relief valve — and it wants finding, not topping up.
• F.28 — ignition failure. The boiler tried to light and couldn't. Check the gas supply and the condensate pipe, then one reset only. If the code comes back, it needs an engineer, not a tenth reset.
• F.29 — flame lost during operation. The flame lit successfully, then dropped out while the boiler was running. This one needs engineer diagnosis rather than DIY.
• F.75 — pump or pressure sensor fault. The boiler can't detect water movement, which usually comes down to a stuck pump or a faulty sensor. Testing tells us which — replacing both on a guess is how repair bills get padded.
• Hot water poor while radiators warm when they shouldn't. On a combi this pattern usually points to the diverter valve or its actuator.

Diagnosis, not guesswork

We test rather than guess: flue gas analysis, flow and return temperatures, gas rate at the meter, electrical checks across the PCB. Where the fault points to two likely parts we tell you both and tell you which we carry. And if your Vaillant is over twelve years old and the repair is more than a third of the cost of replacing it, we will say so — you get the repair price and the replacement price side by side. If it does come to that, we fit the Vaillant ecoTEC plus at £2,699 with a 10-year warranty, but nobody here is paid to talk you into one.

Prices are confirmed as a fixed written quote before any work starts; non-standard jobs are priced after a free site inspection. We cover Birmingham and 10 miles from B20 2JS as standard, extending to 50 miles for boiler installations. Beyond 10 miles a travel charge of £2 per mile may apply, agreed before booking. We are not VAT registered, so no VAT is added to any price on this site.
