Electric boilers and electric water heaters

An electric boiler heats your central heating and hot water the same way a gas boiler does, just using an electric element instead of a gas burner — no flue, no gas supply, and no combustion to worry about. An electric water heater is simpler again: it usually just heats water for taps, either as a small under-sink unit or a larger cylinder-style heater. Both are common where there is no mains gas connection, or where a property is too small or too awkward to run gas pipework into.

Servicing

Electric appliances don't need a Gas Safe check, but they still need looking after: element condition, thermostat and control accuracy, electrical connections, pressure relief and any scale build-up in hard water areas. An annual service is £120 on its own, or £90 if you book it alongside another boiler or cylinder service on the same visit — the same pricing structure as our unvented cylinder servicing.

Repairs

Same approach as our gas boiler repairs: £99 covers a full diagnosis and the first hour of labour, Monday to Friday between 8am and 5.30pm. You get the total repair price before we carry on, so there's no open-ended billing. Outside office hours — evenings, nights and weekends — call us and we'll give you an out-of-hours quote before anyone comes out.

Common faults

• No heat or hot water — often a failed element or thermostat
• Tripping the electrics — usually an element or wiring fault, needs checking before reset
• Reduced hot water flow — scale build-up, especially in hard water areas
• Leaking from the unit — pressure relief valve or a failed seal
• Inaccurate temperature — thermostat or control board fault

Installation

We supply and fit electric boilers and water heaters where mains gas isn't an option, or where it's simply the more sensible choice for the property — a small flat with modest hot water demand, an annexe, a workshop. We size the unit to the property rather than defaulting to the biggest one available, and quote after a proper survey.

Prices

Prices are estimates and may change after a site inspection. We cover Birmingham and 10 miles from B20 2JS as standard, extending to 50 miles for boiler installations. A travel charge may apply beyond 10 miles.
