A like-for-like radiator swap is £175 for labour. Fitting a thermostatic radiator valve is £125 for the first and £55 for each additional radiator on the same visit. We size radiators to the room's heat loss rather than guessing, and supply everything from standard panel radiators to vertical designer units.

An undersized radiator will never heat the room, no matter how hot the boiler runs. We calculate heat loss based on room volume, external wall area, glazing and insulation — which matters especially in Birmingham's Victorian and Edwardian stock, where a solid-wall front room loses heat at roughly twice the rate of a modern equivalent. The output figure we work to is a real one, not the optimistic number on the box.
TRVs let each room run at its own temperature, and they are the cheapest meaningful efficiency upgrade available: turn spare bedrooms down while keeping the living room comfortable and you cut gas use without losing anything you notice. One important rule — never fit a TRV in the same room as your main room thermostat, as the two fight each other.
Old TRV pins seize regularly. If a radiator has gone cold and the rest of the house is fine, a stuck pin is the first thing we check, and it is often a five-minute fix rather than a new valve.
Vertical column radiators free up wall space in narrow terraces and are genuinely useful in a kitchen or hallway where there is nowhere to put a standard panel. They come at a cost per kilowatt of output, so we will be clear about whether the one you have chosen will actually heat the room before you order it.
If your upstairs radiators roast while the far end of the house stays cool, the system is unbalanced rather than broken. Balancing sets the flow through each radiator so they all reach temperature together. We do it as standard on any radiator work and it costs nothing extra.

No. Cold at the top is air and needs bleeding. Cold at the bottom is sludge settling in the radiator and usually points to a system that needs cleaning or flushing.
