What the price depends on

£95 covers a straight swap where there is a sound existing bayonet point in the right place and the new cooker fits the gap. The price rises towards £200 where the connection point has to be moved, a new bayonet or rigid connection installed, or old pipework replaced. A built-in gas hob is £180, which includes up to 0.5 metres of gas pipe alteration to get the supply into position under the worktop.

Why it must be a registered engineer

Connecting a gas appliance is Gas Safe work. A cooker connected with the wrong hose, without a stability bracket, or into pipework that has never been tested, is a genuine risk — and it will be recorded as a fault on any future gas safety check. Retailers' delivery teams are frequently not permitted to connect, only to deliver.

What we check

• Tightness test on the installation before and after
• Correct hose type, length and orientation for the appliance
• Stability bracket or chain fitted where the manufacturer requires it
• Combustion performance and flame picture on each burner
• Ventilation and any openable window requirement for the room
• Adequate clearance to surrounding units and any overhead extractor

We will disconnect and take the old appliance out of the way, and if the new cooker turns out to be the wrong size for the gap, we will tell you before anything is cut.

Prices are estimates and may change after a site inspection. We cover Birmingham and 10 miles from B20 2JS as standard, extending to 50 miles for boiler installations. A travel charge may apply beyond 10 miles.
