What you get for the price

Every installation we quote is a complete job, not a boiler on a wall. The prices below include the appliance, a horizontal flue, a wireless room thermostat, a magnetic system filter, chemical cleanser and long-term inhibitor, all fittings, and the Building Regulations notification that goes to your local authority.

Keeping the warranty valid. Boiler manufacturers' warranties normally depend on the boiler being serviced every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer, with each service recorded. If a year is missed, the manufacturer can refuse a claim. The exact conditions are the manufacturer's own and come with your warranty paperwork. We can carry out the yearly boiler service for you.

Combi swap or system conversion?

A combi swap means your new boiler goes where the old one was and the pipework is largely reused — the cheapest and quickest option, usually one day.

A conversion means moving from an older system with a hot water cylinder and a tank in the loft over to a single combi. It costs more because we remove the cylinder and tanks, re-run pipework, make good, and rebalance the whole system. Budget two days. For most three-bed houses across Birmingham it is the change that makes the biggest difference to running costs and loft space.

If you have two or more bathrooms and a household that showers at the same time, a combi is often the wrong answer. We will tell you that before you spend money, and quote a system boiler with an unvented cylinder instead.

If you would rather keep your tank and cylinder, we also replace regular (heat-only) boilers like for like. That is priced after a free survey, because the work depends on the existing system.

Which boiler should you actually buy?

We install Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi and Main. There is no single best boiler — there is the right output for your home and the right warranty for how long you plan to stay. Output comes from the survey, not from counting radiators: we work out the heat loss of the property, ask how much hot water you use and whether two outlets run at once, measure the mains flow rate and pressure at the property, and check what your existing system and shower can work with, all against the manufacturer's specifications.

We are registered with Vaillant's installer scheme (myREWARDS, formerly Vaillant Advance) and are members of Baxi Works, Baxi's installer scheme. That means two things for you: we know those ranges rather than guessing at them, and your warranty is registered with the manufacturer on the day. Registration is the step most often skipped, and it is the one that quietly invalidates cover years later, exactly when you need it.

One thing the survey always checks is the shower. A combi supplies hot water at mains pressure, so a pump-assisted power shower cannot be used with it: the pump has to come out and the shower is replaced with a mains-pressure mixer, which we price into the quote. If your mains flow is weak, or you have two or more bathrooms used at once, a system boiler with an unvented cylinder may suit you better than a bigger combi, and the survey is where that gets decided.

How the job runs

1. Survey. We look at the gas meter and supply pipe, count radiators, check flue routes and water pressure. Fifteen minutes, no charge.
2. Fixed quote. Written, itemised, and it does not move unless you change the scope.
3. Install day. Water and gas off in the morning, back on the same evening for a swap.
4. Handover. We set the controls, run you through the thermostat, register the warranty and leave the paperwork.

Costs that are not in the headline price

We would rather flag these now than surprise you on the day. A gas supply pipe that is undersized for the new boiler's output, a flue that has to be re-routed, a fused spur that needs moving, a system so heavily sludged it needs a power flush before the warranty is valid, or condensate that has to be run to a soil stack — any of these add cost. A survey catches all of them before you commit.

Recent installations

A condemned Potterton Powermax HE in an Erdington rental, replaced for the landlord with a wall-hung Baxi 400 combi: the floor-standing boiler and its built-in hot water store taken out, a Sentinel magnetic filter and a scale reducer fitted, the system flushed, and the new vertical flue supported through the ceiling void to the roof. Two written-up jobs show how we approach replacement. A leaking unvented cylinder in Wolverhampton was surveyed, quoted and replaced by our G3 engineers to current standards. A Greenstar Ri in Walsall that the customer had been told to replace was repaired with two parts instead, because the numbers did not justify a new boiler. An emergency replacement in Handsworth Wood — the old boiler was beyond repair, so we fitted a new Worcester Bosch quickly rather than leaving the household without heat, then tested and commissioned it as thoroughly as any planned install.
