If you can smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first — it is free and 24-hour, and they will make the supply safe. They do not repair your internal pipework.
If you can smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first — it is free and 24-hour, and they will make the supply safe. They do not repair your internal pipework. That is what we do: tightness test the installation, locate the leak, repair it and restore your supply, usually the same day.

There is a division that catches people out. Cadent and the National Gas Emergency Service deal with the supply up to and including your meter, and they will isolate and cap to make you safe. Everything after the meter — the pipework in your walls, floors and under the units, and the appliances themselves — is yours, and needs a Gas Safe registered engineer. That is the point we come in.
In older Birmingham housing stock the recurring culprits are compression joints behind cookers, corroded steel pipe under solid floors in pre-war terraces, redundant capped-off supplies to removed gas fires, and meter unions disturbed by other trades. Newer builds are more often a badly made joint on a hob or a boiler installed by someone in a hurry.
A gas leak you can smell. Carbon monoxide you cannot — no smell, no colour, no taste. It comes from appliances burning incompletely, not from leaking pipework. If your CO alarm sounds, get everyone out into fresh air and call 0800 111 999. If you do not have an audible CO alarm near every gas appliance, fit one; they cost less than £20 and we will position them for you free on any visit.
Leave a number and a postcode. We will call you back — usually within the hour during office hours.

Call us — do not wait on a form
We answer enquiries the same working day. If it cannot wait, ring 07413 385767.
Pick a slot online insteadTurn the gas off at the meter, open windows, avoid switches and naked flames, get everyone out and call 0800 111 999. Do not wait to phone us first — that number is the emergency service and it is free, 24 hours.
They will make you safe by isolating or capping, but the repair to pipework beyond the meter is the property owner's responsibility and requires a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Tracing plus the first hour is £99. The repair itself depends on where the leak is and how accessible the pipe is — we price it once located and before we start.
A gas tightness test at the meter is the definitive answer. If your meter dial creeps with every appliance off, call us.
We cover Birmingham and the surrounding towns. Pick your area for local detail and response times.
