Heating engineer, gas engineer or plumber?

The three job titles overlap and get used loosely, which makes it hard to know who to ring. This is the practical split.

In practice one person often holds all three tickets, which is why the labels blur. Ours does: gas, heating and plumbing, plus the unvented and heat pump qualifications that most local firms subcontract out. It means one visit rather than three, and one person accountable for the result.

What we work on

• Combi, system and regular boilers — repair, servicing and replacement
• Radiators, valves and system balancing — cold spots, sludge, noisy pipework
• Hot water cylinders, including unvented systems (NICEIC G3 registered)
• Thermostats, zone valves, timers, wiring centres and smart controls
• Power flushing and magnetic filtration
• Heat interface units (HIU) in apartment blocks — Danfoss, SAV and Evinox
• Air source heat pumps, including system design
• LPG heating for properties off the mains gas network

Who turns up

The same engineer, not a rota of subcontractors. Saeed Iqbal has over 20 years on Midlands heating systems, including ten years with British Gas between 2006 and 2016, and holds the ACS gas qualifications (CCN1, CENWAT, CPA1, CKR1, HTR1), LPG categories, City & Guilds Level 2 and Level 3 in domestic natural gas, and NICEIC certification for unvented cylinders, water regulations, energy efficiency and heat pump design. Synergy Gas & Plumbing is also Vaillant Advance and Baxi Works accredited.

Fixed on the first visit, 88% of the time

Between October 2023 and August 2026 we attended 505 breakdown jobs and cleared the fault on the first visit on 447 of them. That is 88%, counted from our own job records rather than estimated, and you can see how the figure is worked out. The engineer carries common parts, so a great many faults are finished the same afternoon they are diagnosed.

When it is worth ringing straight away

A boiler that keeps losing pressure, locks out repeatedly, or has started making a banging or kettling noise is telling you something, and these faults rarely improve on their own. So does a radiator that is cold at the bottom, which usually means sludge rather than air. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, or you can smell gas, treat it as an emergency: ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first, then us. Our emergency line is answered 24 hours a day.

Prices

Prices are confirmed as a fixed written quote before any work starts; non-standard jobs are priced after a free site inspection. We cover Birmingham and 10 miles from B20 2JS as standard, extending to 50 miles for boiler installations. Beyond 10 miles a travel charge of £2 per mile may apply, agreed before booking. We are not VAT registered, so no VAT is added to any price on this site.
