Open doors and windows, do not switch electrics on or off, do not smoke or use naked flames, and turn the gas off at the meter if it is safe to do so, unless the meter is in a cellar or basement. A fault code points an engineer in the right direction, but it is not a diagnosis on its own: the same symptom can come from a sensor, the wiring or the board itself, and fitting parts on a guess wastes the customer's money. We diagnosed the fault to the boiler's main circuit board, the PCB that runs the boiler's controls.
We carry that board on the van. The faulty one came out and the new one went in on the same visit. In the second photo the old board is out, and behind it the boiler is running again on the new board, with the display back to a normal 51°C. The customer was back up and running in one visit.

It is a fault code the boiler shows on its display. A code points an engineer towards an area of the boiler, but on its own it is not a diagnosis: the cause has to be confirmed by testing. On this boiler the cause was the circuit board. If your boiler keeps showing a fault, do not keep resetting it; get it looked at.

A late-night call about a leak. We traced it to the flow adapter on the boiler's right-hand manifold and, with the part on the van, fixed it that night instead of just turning the water off.
