Worcester faults we see most
Worcester Bosch is the most common boiler in Birmingham homes, so most weeks we have one open. The faults repeat, and so do the fixes. These are the ones we see most, each linked to a real job with photos.
- EA fault, no hot water. EA means the boiler could not prove a flame. It can be the electrode, the gas supply, the fan, the board or the gas valve, so it needs testing rather than guessing. On a CDi in Stourbridge our safety checks traced it to the gas valve.
- Ignition lockout. Firing, failing, locking out. On a Greenstar Ri in Walsall the cause was a perished burner gasket and a damaged electrode, both on the van, after previous engineers had said the boiler was finished.
- Losing pressure or leaking inside the case. On the Junior and i ranges the plastic hydraulic manifolds corrode and weep. On a 28i Junior in Solihull we sourced the manifold locally and fitted it the same day.
- Water in the bottom of the boiler. On the CDi the condensate collector seals perish and it weeps inside the combustion box. Reaching it means stripping the box out, as on a landlord follow-up in Stourbridge.
- Control panel hanging down. The plastic hinge clips on the Greenstar Compact snap with age. Two clips from the van, as on a Compact CDi in Quinton that the customer had taped shut.

Told your Worcester needs replacing?

Worcester's guarantee depends on an annual service, documented, and so does the boiler's life. A basic service is £95 and includes a combustion check on the analyser. Every five to eight years a full strip-down, £185 with gaskets and inhibitor included, cleans the heat exchanger and burner and replaces the seals that cause most of the faults above before they start.
