Ferroli Boiler Repair, Birmingham

Independent Gas Safe registered engineers. Ferroli Modena, Optimax and Bluehelix faults tested, not guessed: A01 and A06 lockouts, overheat and fan faults.

Quick answer

We repair Ferroli boilers across Birmingham and the surrounding towns: the Modena, Optimax and Bluehelix. In office hours (Mon–Fri 8am–5.30pm) the callout is £99, which covers a full diagnosis and the first hour of labour, and you get the total price before we fit anything. We are independent of Ferroli and Gas Safe registered (594385), and every repair finishes with a flue gas analyser reading. We have not yet written up a Ferroli job with photos, so this page sets out the faults and what we do about them, without a case study.

Ferroli faults and what usually causes them

Ferroli uses A codes for lockouts, where the boiler has shut down and needs a reset, and F codes for faults. Some codes mean different things on different ranges, so the model matters. The code tells us where to start testing, not which part has failed.

  • A01, will not light. The boiler tried to light, no flame was detected, and it has locked out. Check the gas is on at the meter and that other gas appliances work. In freezing weather, check the condensate pipe outside. Otherwise the likely causes are the gas supply, the electrode or the gas valve, and testing tells us which.
  • A06, lights then goes out. The burner lit, the flame was then lost and the boiler has locked out. One reset only; if it returns it needs an engineer with an analyser.
  • A03, overheat. On the Modena and Optimax, the high limit protection has shut the boiler down. Check the pressure gauge. The usual causes are low pressure, a failed pump, an airlock or sludge.
  • A05, fan fault. The boiler has lost the fan speed signal and shut down. The fan is part of the flue system, so this is not one to keep resetting.
  • A02 and F07, stop using the boiler. A02 is a flame signal when the burner should be off. F07, also shown as A07, is a high flue gas temperature. Both are safety faults: switch the boiler off and call.

Ferroli fault codes, briefly

The Ferroli codes we are asked about most
CodeWhat it meansUsual causes
A01Burner lockout: no flame detectedGas supply, frozen condensate pipe, electrode, gas valve
A06Flame lost after ignitionGas supply, flue, electrode, condensate
A03High limit (overheat) protection (Modena, Optimax)Low pressure, pump, airlock, sludge
A05Fan faultFan or its wiring
A02Flame signal when the burner should be offGas valve or electronics. Do not reset
F07 / A07High flue gas temperatureFlue or combustion. Stop using the boiler

Press reset once. If the code comes back, stop resetting and ring us with the code and the model. With A02 or F07 do not reset at all: switch the boiler off and call, and if you can smell gas ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first. Codes such as F14 and F15 mean one thing on the Modena and Optimax and another on the Bluehelix. Our guide lists the full set of Ferroli fault codes and says which range each applies to, checked against Ferroli's own manuals.

Ferroli models we work on

The Modena, Optimax and Bluehelix. When you call, have the model name and the code on the display, or send a photo by WhatsApp. Our van stock covers the makes we see most, so a Ferroli part is usually ordered to the model once the fault is diagnosed, and you get the price before we order it.

Repair or replace a Ferroli?

There is a point at which a boiler is not worth repairing: past twelve years old, on its second or third major part, with a corroding heat exchanger. If yours is there, we will say so and put the repair price and the replacement price side by side. New boilers start at £1,999 fitted, confirmed in writing after a free survey.

If yours is not at that point, a £99 diagnosis is a small price against a new boiler. We do not use scare tactics, and we will show you the reading or the failed part rather than ask you to take our word for it.

Servicing a Ferroli

Ferroli, like every manufacturer, ties its guarantee to an annual service. A basic service is £95 and includes a combustion check on the analyser; an intermediate service is £125 and a full strip-down is £185 with gaskets and an inhibitor top-up included.

Ferroli jobs

We have not yet published a photo case study of a Ferroli repair, and we are not going to borrow one. Every job we do write up, on any make, is on the case studies index.

We also repair Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal, Glow-worm, Viessmann and Potterton boilers. Every other make is covered on our main boiler repair page.

Ferroli boiler repair: common questions

How much does a Ferroli boiler repair cost?

In office hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5.30pm), £99 covers the callout, a full diagnosis and the first hour of labour. Once we know the fault you get the total price, including any part, before we carry on. Out of hours, we quote by phone before we set off.

What does A01 mean on a Ferroli boiler?

A01 is a burner lockout: the boiler tried to light, no flame was detected and it has shut down. Check the gas is on at the meter and that other gas appliances work. In freezing weather, thaw the white plastic condensate pipe outside with warm, not boiling, water. Then reset once. If A01 returns, it needs a Gas Safe registered engineer.

What does A06 mean on a Ferroli boiler?

A06 means the burner lit and the flame was then lost, so the boiler has locked out. If the condensate pipe outside is frozen, thaw it with warm, not boiling, water and reset once. Otherwise there is nothing safe to try: book an engineer, and do not keep resetting.

Are you Ferroli approved?

No, and we would rather tell you than let you assume. We are not part of any Ferroli service network or installer scheme. We are independent Gas Safe registered engineers (594385). For a repair, what matters is a proper diagnosis and the right part.

Do you carry Ferroli parts?

Our van stock covers the makes we see most. A Ferroli part is usually ordered to the model once the fault is diagnosed, and you get the price before we order it.

Should I repair or replace an old Ferroli?

Repair it unless it is past about twelve years old, on its second or third major part, or its heat exchanger is corroding. We check first and show you what we find. If it is time, new boilers start at £1,999 fitted, confirmed in writing after a free survey.
