Sutton Coldfield, evening emergency: a Worcester Greenstar 30i ErP on fault C7, new fan and new PCB fitted within two hours of the call
The call came in at 8.30pm. The boiler was locked out on fault C7, a fan fault. We replaced the fan, then found a second fault behind it, an H09 code the customer had been resetting for months, and replaced the PCB on the same visit. Genuine Worcester Bosch parts, and the boiler running again within two hours of the call.
A customer in Sutton Coldfield called our emergency line at 8.30pm. Their Worcester Greenstar 30i ErP had stopped, and the display showed C7, 214 and "Fan": a fan fault. We replaced the fan and got the boiler running. With it running, the display then showed H09. The customer told us that code had been coming up for the past few months and they had been resetting it. We diagnosed the PCB, the boiler's main control board, as the cause. We had that part on the van too, so with the customer's agreement we replaced it on the same visit. Both parts were brand-new, genuine Worcester Bosch parts, and the boiler was running again within two hours of the call.

Open doors and windows, do not switch electrics on or off, do not smoke or use naked flames, and turn the gas off at the meter if it is safe to do so, unless the meter is in a cellar or basement. Once the supply has been made safe, we can trace and repair the fault.

The call
The call came in at 8.30pm from a customer in Sutton Coldfield. Their boiler, a Worcester Greenstar 30i ErP, had stopped, and the display was showing C7 with 214 and "Fan". The first photo is the boiler as we found it.
The first fault: the fan
On Worcester Greenstar boilers, C7 is a fan fault: the boiler cannot detect its fan running, and without the fan it will not light. We tested it and the fan had failed. The second photo is the outlet of the old fan, with dust and debris built up inside. We fitted a new fan and got the boiler running again.
The second fault: H09 and the PCB
With the boiler running, the display then showed H09. The customer told us this code had been coming up for the past few months, and they had been resetting it each time. We diagnosed the PCB, the boiler's main control board, as the cause. We had that part on the van as well, so we explained what we had found, asked the customer whether they wanted it repaired there and then, and with their agreement replaced the PCB on the same visit.
Genuine parts, one visit
Both parts were brand-new, genuine Worcester Bosch parts, and the boiler was running again within two hours of the call. Our Worcester boiler repair page covers other Worcester faults, and our 24/7 emergency page explains how out-of-hours calls work.

Common questions
What does C7 mean on a Worcester boiler?
On Worcester Bosch Greenstar boilers, C7 is a fan fault: the boiler cannot detect its fan running, so it will not light. Here the display showed C7 with 214 and "Fan". A failed fan is a common cause, as here; a wiring fault or a control board fault can cause it too, so it needs an engineer to test.
Why did the boiler need a new PCB as well?
Once the new fan was in and the boiler was running, the display showed H09. The customer told us it had been showing for months and they had been resetting it. We diagnosed the PCB, the main control board, as the cause, explained it, and with the customer's agreement replaced it on the same visit.
Should I keep resetting a fault code?
No. A reset clears the display, not the fault. If a code keeps coming back, stop resetting it and call an engineer with the code and the boiler model. If you can smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first.
Do you come out in the evening?
Yes. Our emergency line is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Out of office hours we quote the price on the phone before we set off.
Are the parts genuine?
Yes. Both the fan and the control board were brand-new, genuine Worcester Bosch parts; the boxes are in the last photo.

No heating or hot water and E133 on the display. The condensate trap was blocked with sludge; we cleared it and had the boiler running again, with a service booked for the following week.
A corroded radiator valve had started leaking onto the floor. Dust sheets down first, radiator drained, new valve fitted and checked on the same visit.
What a full strip-down actually involves, photographed as we went: fan and burner out, burner door and heat exchanger cleaned, gaskets replaced. Then a walk round the house to bleed every radiator.
